Background

To celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Thailand and China,

the Government of the Kingdom of Thailand and the Government of the People’s Republic of China strongly desire to jointly promote Thailand-China Strategic Partnership through joint development of the Northeast and other regions of Thailand for the long term benefits of the people, and take Thailand as the transportation hub to enhance infrastructure on land transport connectivity between China and ASEAN member countries.

The Minister of Transport of Thailand (H.E. ACM Prajin Juntong) and the Chairman of National Development and Reform Commission of the Government of the People’s Republic of China (Mr.Xu Shaoshi) has signed the Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of the Kingdom of Thailand and the Government of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) on Cooperation on the Thailand’s Railways Infrastructure Development on the Strategic Framework for Development of Thailand’s Transportation Infrastructure 2015-2022 (B.E.2558-2565) on Friday, 19 December 2014 at Bangkok, Thailand.

The Government of the Kingdom of Thailand agrees to the participation of the Government of the People’s Republic of China in implementing the “Strategic Framework for Development of Thailand’s Transportation Infrastructure 2015-2022 (B.E.2558-2565)”, particularly the Nong Khai - Nakhorn Ratchasima - Kaeng Khoi - Port of Map Taphut Route (734 kilometers), and Kaeng Khoi-Bangkok Route (133 kilometers) ,which is Thailand’s first standard gauge railway project (hereafter referred to as the Project). The Project will be done on a government to government basis.
